The Special Prosecutor has lodged eight new charges against Adjenim Boateng Adjei, the former CEO of the Public Procurement Authority (PPA), while withdrawing the initial seventeen charges. This amendment also entails the dropping of all charges against Francis Arhin, his brother-in-law.
Adjei now faces eight charges, all linked to allegations of exploiting his public authority for personal gain and exerting indirect influence to manipulate procurement processes for unfair advantages in contract awards.
This revision marks a significant departure from the original 17 charges and signifies a shift in the prosecution’s stance on the case.
Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, who was a key witness for the prosecution, underwent extensive cross-examination for over a year before the ruling was reached.
The case stems from allegations in August 2019, when Adjei was purportedly accused of leveraging his position at the PPA to favor Talent Discovery Limited in contract allocations, as revealed in Manasseh Azure Awuni’s documentary, “Contract for Sale.”
Initially implicated in connection with his alleged involvement with Talent Discovery Limited, Francis Kwaku Arhin, Adjei’s brother-in-law, has since been absolved of all charges.
Adjei, who served as CEO of the PPA from March 2017 to August 2019, was dismissed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo following the release of the documentary.
