82 Police Officers Sues Ghana Police and IGP on Promotion

igp

A group of 82 police officers has sued the Attorney General, the Ghana Police Service, and the Inspector General of Police, alleging unfair and arbitrary actions regarding their promotions. The officers assert they should have been promoted after completing their studies, which were undertaken under the Study leave with a pay policy of the Ghana Police Service. However, despite several months since their studies were completed, they have yet to receive their promotions.

The officers state they all applied for the Study Leave with a Pay program for the 2017/2018 academic year. This program enables police officers to pursue tertiary education for a period ranging from two to four years while still receiving their salaries. As part of the program, each officer was required to enter a bond, committing to serve the Police Service for at least five years upon completing their respective courses. The bond stipulated that breaching the terms would cause inevitable consequences.

Through their lawsuit, they would cause officers to address the perceived unfair treatment and request the court’s intervention regarding their delayed promotions within the Ghana Police Service.
