Richard Ahiagbah, the Director of Communications for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on President John Mahama to promptly sign the anti-gay bill into law.

Mr. Ahiagbah accused the President of failing to honor his campaign promise during the 2024 election to endorse the LGBTQ+ Bill.

In a Facebook post, Mr. Ahiagbah criticized Mr. Mahama’s recent remarks, where he suggested that the bill, in its current form, could not be approved. During a meeting with religious leaders on Tuesday, President Mahama proposed that a government-sponsored bill would be more effective than the existing Private Member’s bill. He argued that such an approach would allow for broader stakeholder engagement and help build national consensus.

The President also highlighted the importance of revising school curricula to include lessons that emphasize African and Ghanaian cultural and moral values.

Despite these statements, Mr. Ahiagbah stressed the importance of the President staying true to his promise, warning that elections have consequences.

“Sign the bill as you pledged to Ghanaians,” he urged in his post.
