
Police in the Upper East Region have recovered 1,400 rounds of ammunition from a mechanic workshop near the Assemblies of God Church in Bolgatanga following a report made by a local auto mechanic.
According to the Upper East Regional Police Command, the discovery was made on May 9, 2026, after the mechanic alerted authorities that his apprentice had found suspicious items while cleaning the workshop premises.
Police officers were immediately dispatched to the location, where they uncovered two sealed packets hidden inside fertilizer sacks in a hen coop. The packets were found to contain 700 rounds each of 7.62×39mm ammunition, bringing the total number of rounds recovered to 1,400.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the source and intended use of the ammunition.
