Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong has sparked fresh debate within the party after warning that he could reveal damaging information about the NPP if he continues to face criticism from party members.
Speaking during an appearance on Net 2 TV, the outspoken politician expressed frustration over what he described as attempts by some party supporters to portray him as bitter following his criticism of the NPP’s performance while in government. His comments have since generated widespread discussion among party faithful and political observers.
Agyapong’s remarks were triggered by controversy surrounding the Afari Military Hospital project, which he argued should have been completed and fully operational after eight years of NPP governance. He also questioned the progress of the Agenda 111 hospital projects, alleging mismanagement and irregularities in the awarding of contracts.
In a strongly worded warning, Agyapong cautioned party members against provoking him, insisting that he possesses information that could create discomfort within the NPP. He indicated that the party should “wait and see what will happen in June and July 2027,” suggesting that he may publicly disclose details about events that occurred during the party’s time in government.
The former lawmaker rejected claims that his criticisms stem from bitterness over the party’s internal politics, maintaining that his concerns are rooted in accountability and national development. According to him, attempts to silence dissenting voices within the party would not succeed.
His comments have already triggered reactions from within the NPP. Former flagbearer aspirant Dr. Bryan Acheampong has appealed for calm and urged Agyapong to support efforts aimed at rebuilding party unity ahead of the 2028 general elections. Acheampong acknowledged existing frustrations but emphasized the need for reconciliation rather than division.
Meanwhile, some party members have gone a step further by petitioning the NPP leadership to investigate Agyapong’s recent statements. The petition argues that his threats to expose internal party matters could undermine party cohesion and damage the NPP’s efforts to reorganize following its 2024 electoral defeat.
As speculation grows over what information Agyapong may be referring to, political analysts say his comments could become a significant issue within the NPP in the coming months. Whether the former MP follows through on his threat to “spill the beans” in 2027 remains uncertain, but his remarks have undoubtedly intensified discussions about accountability, party unity, and the future direction of the NPP.
With more than a year before the timeline he referenced, many party supporters will be watching closely to see whether the tensions can be resolved or whether Agyapong’s warning signals a deeper internal conflict within one of Ghana’s major political parties.
