Suspected Gang Leader Arrested Over Obuasi Murder as Police Hunt Remaining Accomplices

Gang Leader Arrested Over Obuasi

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man believed to be the leader of a criminal gang allegedly linked to the murder of a young man in Obuasi.

The suspect, identified as Seidu Masawudu, popularly known as “Marshall,” was arrested alongside his 22-year-old girlfriend following an intelligence-led operation by the police.

Authorities say Masawudu is suspected to have played a leading role in a violent attack that resulted in the death of Abdul Jabal Suleman at Abompe New Site, a suburb of Obuasi.

Details of the Deadly Attack

According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of July 9, 2026, at about 2:20 a.m.

The Obuasi District Police Command responded to a distress call reporting that an armed group had attacked Suleman.

The gang, reportedly armed with firearms and cutlasses, allegedly assaulted the victim, leaving him with severe injuries before escaping from the scene.

Suleman was immediately transported to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital for emergency medical attention, but medical staff pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Police investigators immediately launched efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

Intelligence-Led Manhunt Leads to Arrest

Following the murder, Masawudu reportedly fled the Ashanti Region in an attempt to avoid arrest.

Through intelligence gathering and tracking efforts, police officers traced his movements to Soe in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region.

He was eventually arrested on Saturday, July 11, 2026, alongside his girlfriend, who is also assisting investigators with the ongoing inquiry.

Police officials said the arrest was the result of coordinated efforts aimed at dismantling the criminal network believed to be behind the attack.

Suspect Admits Involvement, Cites Gang Rivalry

During police interrogation, Masawudu allegedly admitted involvement in the killing and provided information about the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Investigators say the suspect linked the incident to an ongoing gang rivalry in the Obuasi area.

The revelation has strengthened police efforts to identify and arrest other individuals believed to have participated in the attack.

Police Pursue Remaining Suspects

The Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, confirmed that Masawudu provided information that led investigators to several other suspected accomplices.

Police are currently searching for the remaining suspects, who are known by various aliases, including:

  • Happy Bowmin (Oboy)
  • Mallam Karim
  • Malik
  • Balanga
  • Basit
  • Nazir
  • Nuhu
  • Jedus (Baron)

Authorities have appealed to members of the public to provide any information that could assist in locating the individuals.

Police Warn Criminal Groups in Obuasi

The arrest comes amid increased efforts by security agencies to address violent crimes and organized criminal activities in parts of the Ashanti Region.

Police officials have assured residents that investigations will continue until all individuals connected to the murder are brought before the law.

The command has urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities that could help prevent future incidents.

The investigation into Abdul Jabal Suleman’s death remains ongoing, with police expected to provide further updates as additional suspects are arrested and more details emerge.
