Ghanaian gospel musician Mabel Okyere has urged the public to stop using high-profile divorces to judge the marriages of all women in the gospel music industry.
Speaking with MB Prince on Kessben FM in Kumasi on October 2, 2026, the recently married singer said failed relationships should not overshadow colleagues who have maintained enduring unions. The interview formed part of a media tour promoting her upcoming Glory Concert.
“Not all female gospel musicians have bad marriages, and not all of us will end up divorcing our husbands,” she said.
Okyere acknowledged that marital difficulties affect gospel musicians in Ghana and elsewhere. However, she argued that these experiences should not define an entire industry or create assumptions about other artistes’ relationships.
She cited Ceccy Twum and Piesie Esther as colleagues who, in her view, offer positive examples of balancing marriage with a music career.
According to Okyere, broken marriages often attract attention while stable relationships receive little recognition. She encouraged the media to highlight those positive experiences as well, giving audiences a more balanced picture of female gospel musicians and their family lives.
