Lil Win Tearfully Recounts Boat Travel Concerns That Disrupted Nzulezu Film Shoot

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, became emotional while recounting how concerns over boat travel disrupted production of his upcoming film, A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu).

According to the actor, some Nigerian cast members declined to return to the set after three days of filming because they were uncomfortable with the daily journey across the water.

The production required cast and crew to travel by boat for about 40 minutes to reach filming locations in Nzulezu, the Ghanaian community renowned for its homes built on stilts over a lagoon.

Lil Win said the actors requested a change of location, leaving him facing a difficult decision. He explained that Nzulezu was central to the story and that moving elsewhere would undermine the film’s cultural setting and narrative.

Despite the disruption, the filmmaker said he understood their concerns. He linked their apprehension to the death of Nollywood actor Junior Pope, who drowned in April 2024 following a boat accident connected to a film production.

Lil Win recounted holding individual discussions with cast members to address their fears and help the production continue. The setback added to the financial and logistical pressures he was already managing.

Produced under his Weezy Empire banner, A Journey to Africa brings together Ghanaian and Nigerian screen talents. Its cast includes Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Destiny Etiko, Mike Ezuruonye, Zubby Michael and Charles Awurum.

Lil Win has previously spoken about the strain of financing the project, including sleepless nights over outstanding payments to actors. He said concerns about meeting those obligations sometimes left him awake at 2 a.m.

During the filming period, the actor was also enstooled as Nkosuohene, or Development Chief, of Nzulezu.

Principal photography reportedly concluded in mid-October 2026. Planned screenings include premieres at the National Theatre in Accra and in Kumasi, with possible screenings in the United Kingdom.
