A 20-year-old labourer, Kojo Sah Nkrumah, has been fined GH¢120,000 by the Tarkwa Circuit Court for possessing and selling cannabis and tramadol without lawful authority.
The court, presided over by Ms. Bernice Mensimah Ackon, convicted Nkrumah after he pleaded guilty to two counts relating to the possession and sale of narcotic drugs.
He will serve a three-year prison sentence if he fails to pay the fine. The custodial term is an alternative penalty for non-payment of the GH¢120,000 imposed by the court.
Presenting the facts, Assistant Superintendent of Police Samuel Ahiabor told the court that Nkrumah was a resident of the Tarkwa Railway Station area.
His arrest took place at approximately 1:30 a.m. on January 21, 2025, when a police team was conducting a routine night patrol in Tarkwa.
Chief Inspector Issahaque Yahaya led the patrol team, which comprised personnel from the Western Central Regional Formed Police Unit Base in Tarkwa.
Following his arrest, Nkrumah was brought before the court to answer charges concerning his unlawful possession and sale of cannabis and tramadol. He admitted both offences, and the court convicted and sentenced him on his own plea.
