The VGMA Board has canceled Jay Bahd’s nomination for New Artist of the Year for its upcoming edition.
The decision to cancel responded to a petition by broadcaster and VGMA Academy member Austine Woode on Joy FM’s Twitter Spaces.
According to the petition made by Austine, Jay Bahd had previously received a nomination in the Best Collaboration of the Year category in 2021 for his work on the song “Sore” with Yaw Tog. As a result, Austine argued Jay Bahd was not a new artist and therefore, not eligible for the New Artiste of the Year category.
The cancellation of Jay Bahd’s nomination is unfortunate, but the award schemes should have clear eligibility criteria to ensure fairness and transparency.
