Yesterday, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) gathered in Assin North to celebrate the re-election of their former Member of Parliament (MP), James Gyakye Quayson. According to the Electoral Commission’s (EC) final declaration, Mr. Quayson secured 57.56% of the votes with 17,245 votes, while Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) received 12,630 votes, representing 42.15%.
The Liberal Party of Ghana’s (LPG) candidate, Sefenu Bernice Enyonam, got 87 votes, or 0.29%. NDC supporters in Assin North expressed their satisfaction with the results and believed Mr. Quayson would bring development to the constituency. They attributed their victory to Mr. Quayson’s potential and criticized the NPP for attempting to sway voters with counterfeit GHS200 notes.
The supporters emphasized their focus was on development rather than financial incentives and expressed gratitude for the victory. However, NPP supporters remained optimistic about their candidate’s prospects in the 2024 elections.
