According to a recent national poll conducted by Global InfoAnalytics in July 2023, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a lead of three percentage points (3%) among all voters in the race to lead the NPP party for the 2024 election. This surge in support follows the formal launch of his campaign.
The poll reveals that 36% of voters now prefer Dr. Bawumia as the leader of the NPP, while 33% favor Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten (AKK), and 25% prefer Kennedy Ohene Agyapong (KOA).
In April 2023, Mr. Kyerematen held a 30% to 29% lead over Dr. Bawumia. However, among NPP voters, Dr. Bawumia now leads with approximately 50%, followed by Mr. Kyerematen with 33%, and Ken Agyepong with 16% of the vote. In the event of a runoff, the poll indicates Dr. Bawumia leads Mr. Kyerematen by 55% to 45% among NPP voters.
Among all voters, however, Mr. Kyerematen currently holds the lead over Dr. Bawumia, with 54% to 46%. The poll also suggests that if a runoff were to occur among NPP voters, 21% of KOA supporters would back Dr. Bawumia, while 57% would support Mr. Kyerematen, and 23% would not vote.
Regarding the race for the Jubilee House, the poll shows that Dr. Bawumia and Mr. Kyerematen have lost ground to John Dramani Mahama compared to the April 2023 poll. Currently, the NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, leads Dr. Bawumia by 55% to 37%, with 8% of voters stating their intention to vote for another candidate. (In the April 2023 poll, JDM led DMB by 55% to 38%.)
The poll also shows that John Dramani Mahama leads Mr. Kyerematen by 54% to 39%, with 7% of voters planning to vote for another candidate. (In the April 2023 poll, JDM led AKK by 54% to 40%.)
When asked about the parliamentary elections 2024 and which party’s candidates voters intend to support, 48% of respondents indicated they would vote for NDC candidates, while 36% stated their preference for NPP candidates.
Additionally, 3% mentioned other parties’ candidates, and 13% were unsure of their choice.
The poll reveals that 63% of voters believe Ghana is heading in the wrong direction, while 26% believe it is moving in the right direction. 11% of respondents did not express an opinion.
Regarding the president’s job performance, the poll shows only 34% of voters approve of his performance, while 60% disapprove. 6% did not offer an opinion.
In terms of the voters’ standard of living over the past twelve months, the poll shows 20% reported an improvement, 45% stated it had worsened, 29% said it had not changed, and 6% did not have an opinion.
When asked whether the 1992 constitution adequately addresses the country’s needs and challenges, only 28% of respondents agreed, while 50% disagreed. 22% did not provide an opinion.
Among those who disagreed with the view that the constitution meets the country’s needs, 63% expressed support for amending the constitution, 19% opposed the idea, and 18% did not offer an opinion.
