Sarah Adwoa Safo, the current Member of Parliament for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency in the Greater Accra Region, has refuted speculations about her intention to run as an Independent candidate in the upcoming general elections. Safo, who lost in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Primary, was defeated by Mike Oquaye Jr., the CEO of the Free Zones Authority and son of former Speaker of Parliament Mike Oquaye.

Despite rumors circulating after the primary that she might contest independently, Safo clarified in a statement, “For the avoidance of doubt and without any shred of ambiguity, I reiterate that I have no intention whatsoever of running as an Independent Candidate in the upcoming December 7, 2024, Presidential and Parliamentary elections and for that matter, at any point in the foreseeable future.”

Addressing the misinformation and speculation surrounding her political future, Safo emphasized her commitment to the values of the NPP and the collective goal of securing victory in the 2024 elections with H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

“As a three-term Member of Parliament and a true party person, I am cognizant of the fundamental principles which underpin the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition for which internal competition and afterward cooperation remains the guiding light,” she stated.

Expressing gratitude to the people of the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency and polling station executives, Safo pledged to work collaboratively with the party’s leadership in the constituency to unite and campaign effectively for both parliamentary and presidential candidates. She concluded her statement on Facebook, emphasizing her dedication to executing government business expeditiously in Parliament.
