Suspected robbers have targeted high-tension infrastructure belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), resulting in widespread power outages across several communities in the Greater Kumasi districts.
The criminals allegedly tampered with the infrastructure, causing the collapse of eight towers along the critical transmission line that extends from Anwomaso BSP to Akyawkrom Substation in Ejisu. It is reported that the perpetrators removed bolts and nuts from the bases of one of the towers, leading to its collapse and subsequent damage to surrounding towers.
This unfortunate incident has had significant repercussions, with numerous areas reliant on this essential electrical network experiencing a major disruption in power supply.
Communities severely impacted by the outage include Bekwai, Awiankwanta, Kumawu, Antoakrom, Manso Nkwanta, Jacobu Samfo-Aduam, Ejisu, Onwe, Besease, Asotwe, Abankro, Baworo, and their neighboring areas.
The loss of power has undoubtedly caused inconvenience and challenges for residents and businesses alike, highlighting the vulnerability of critical infrastructure to criminal activities and the need for enhanced security measures to safeguard against such incidents in the future.
