Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has made a startling assertion that the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was not given the freedom to select his running mate for the upcoming elections.
According to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, Dr. Bawumia was compelled to accept Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, as his running mate, despite concerns about the latter’s perceived arrogant demeanor.
Speaking on 3FM, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that the decision to impose a running mate on Dr. Bawumia deviates from the party’s tradition. He cited previous leaders like former President Akufo-Addo, who had the autonomy to choose their running mates.
“I am aware that he [Bawumia] was not allowed to select his own running mate… Rawlings chose his own running mate, Kufuor chose his own running mate, Atta Mills chose his own running mate, Mahama chose his own running mate,” Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe asserted.
“Akufo-Addo, in his first and second terms, selected his own running mates. Why then can’t Bawumia choose his own running mate?” he questioned.
