Several firefighters are now fighting for their lives after the upper floor of a two-story building collapsed on them during a fierce fire battle. This tragic incident occurred in West Legon, a suburb of the nation’s capital, on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in the afternoon.
The unfortunate event resulted in injuries to four firefighters who were initially responding from the Legon Fire Station. Two of the officers in serious condition are currently undergoing treatment at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Legon.
Following medical care, the two other officers with minor injuries have been discharged. Chief Fire Officer Timothy Osafo-Affum released a statement expressing sympathy and concern, mentioning that the Service Administration visited the injured firefighters at UGMC, Legon, earlier in the morning.
