The 102-seater aircraft arrived at Kotoka International Airport in Accra following a three-day delivery journey from China. It travelled through Kazakhstan, Armenia and Tunisia before reaching Ghana.
The new aircraft is configured with 14 premium economy seats and 88 economy seats, providing passengers with additional travel options and improved comfort.
AWA’s Embraer E190 also features a new blue anniversary livery carrying the inscription “Experience Ghana,” highlighting the airline’s connection to the country while promoting Ghana as a tourism and business destination.
The delivery marks the beginning of the airline’s broader fleet expansion program, which is expected to include up to 10 Embraer E190 aircraft. The larger and longer-range jets will complement or gradually replace AWA’s existing fleet of 50-seat Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft.
The fleet expansion is expected to give the airline the capacity to restore and introduce more regional services. Routes under consideration include flights from Accra to Abidjan, Freetown, Monrovia and other major destinations in West Africa.
The addition of the Embraer E190 is also expected to increase passenger capacity, improve operational flexibility and support AWA’s ambition to strengthen its position within the regional aviation market.
