More than 10 young agricultural professionals from the Bole-Bamboi Constituency have graduated as part of the first-ever cohort of the government’s Feed Ghana Brigade, a new initiative aimed at strengthening agricultural extension services and improving food production across the country.
The graduates completed their training and passed out on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, during a national ceremony held at the Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.
The inaugural program saw the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) graduate a total of 506 agricultural professionals, who will be deployed across all 276 constituencies in Ghana to support farmers and modernize local agricultural practices.
Graduates Receive Equipment for Field Operations
As part of efforts to ensure the new brigadiers are fully equipped for their assignments, the government provided each graduate with essential operational support during the graduation ceremony.
Every member of the first cohort received a Yamaha YBR 125G motorcycle to enable them to travel efficiently into rural communities and farming areas where their services are most needed.
The Bole-Bamboi graduates are expected to return to their home communities in the Savannah Region, where they will work directly with farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
Their deployment is designed to strengthen MoFA’s agricultural extension system by providing more technical support at the community level.
Feed Ghana Brigade to Strengthen Farmer Support
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has emphasized that the brigadiers are not being trained for office-based administrative roles.
Instead, they will serve as frontline agricultural advisers responsible for improving farming practices and increasing productivity among smallholder farmers.

Providing Technical Farming Support
The brigadiers will introduce farmers to improved agricultural techniques aimed at increasing yields, improving efficiency, and reducing post-harvest losses.
They will provide guidance on crop production methods, farm management practices, and modern approaches to sustainable agriculture.
Promoting “Nkokonkitinkiti” and Backyard Gardening
The program will also support household food security initiatives through the promotion of backyard gardening.
Brigadiers will train families on how to establish and maintain productive home gardens capable of providing fresh food while reducing household dependence on external food supplies.
Supporting Institutional Farms
The agricultural professionals will assist schools, churches, and other community institutions in developing and managing farms.
They will provide expertise to establish sustainable agricultural projects that can serve as practical learning and food production centers.
Advising Private Agribusinesses
Beyond public sector support, the brigadiers will also provide technical advisory services to private agribusinesses seeking professional agricultural expertise.
Program Set for Major Expansion
At the graduation ceremony, Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku announced that the 506-member group represents only the beginning of a broader national agricultural employment strategy.
The Feed Ghana Brigade program is expected to expand significantly, with plans to absorb between 5,000 and 10,000 agriculture and veterinary graduates over a four-year period.
The initiative is designed to address youth unemployment while simultaneously strengthening Ghana’s agricultural workforce.
Long-Term Employment Opportunities
To ensure sustainability and job security, the government has indicated that some members of each cohort will be retained as permanent staff of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture after completing their operational assignments.
Officials say the retention plan will help preserve institutional knowledge, strengthen extension delivery, and create long-term career pathways for young agricultural professionals.
The Feed Ghana Brigade forms part of broader government efforts to boost domestic food production, modernize farming systems, and position young professionals at the center of Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.
