A tragic incident occurred in Faana in the Ga South Municipality, where nine out of twelve children died in a canoe accident. Search efforts are underway to recover the remaining victims, as eight bodies have been found. The children were being transported back from school when the canoe capsized midway through the journey, leading to this catastrophic event. The accident took place while the students were returning from Wiaboman.
The accident has been attributed to high tides in the sea and the Densu River, which were further influenced by the spillage of the Weija Dam. Enyonam Ekpe is one of the fortunate three children who survived the incident.
The parents of the deceased children are devastated, and the entire community is filled with sorrow. Among the grieving parents is Fortune Amenume, who tragically lost her two children, aged nine and one-and-a-half years old.
While eight bodies have been recovered, search operations continue to locate the remaining victim. One of the survivors is currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
Assembly member for Botianor Electoral Area, Dan Bright Abayateye, regrets the lack of response from the Ga South Municipality to this distressing situation.
