Cecilia Abena Dapaah, a former Minister of Sanitation, has strongly denied allegations suggesting that she owns a real estate company and uses aliases to hide her business transactions. These accusations were presented by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in court documents, alleging the existence of an unregistered and concealed real estate enterprise linked to her.
Furthermore, the records claimed that she possessed substantial amounts of cash that were unaccounted for, with her housekeepers allegedly accessing these funds. It was asserted that there was no proper documentation to account for these sums or any evidence of requisite payments made.
Kofi Mensah, Dapaah’s personal assistant, refuted the OSP’s allegations and suggested that the case was being tried based on public opinion. He categorically denied the assertion that Dapaah was operating a real estate business under a false identity. Instead, he clarified that the only real estate involvement she had was the purchase of an apartment at the Kpone affordable housing program for her late mother, which she later decided to sell.
Regarding the bank account that was reported to be receiving funds in her name, Mensah explained that it was set up to receive donations in memory of her late brother. These donations were subsequently used to establish an account for her.
Mensah called on the public to dismiss the accusations as baseless and urged the OSP to refrain from conducting its trial through the media. He also pointed out that Dapaah’s spouse often receives money from individuals involved in the construction projects he oversees.
“Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah has never been involved in a real estate business. She purchased a Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) apartment at Kpone affordable housing scheme for her late mother and later decided to sell it. How this translates into her owning a real estate business is beyond comprehension,” Mensah clarified.
Regarding the bank account in her late brother’s name, Mensah explained that it was used to receive donations during his funeral, and afterward, those funds were utilized to open an account. He questioned whether this warranted headlines suggesting her late brother was sending her money through checks.
Regarding the claim of cash hidden in obscure locations within her house, Mensah dismissed it as baseless and a product of the OSP’s imagination. He also reminded the OSP that Dapaah’s husband regularly receives cash from individuals associated with his construction projects.
“The public is advised to treat these publications and allegations with the disdain they deserve, and the OSP is urged to refrain from enjoying trial by media,” Mensah concluded.
