The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has emphasized that safeguarding the value of the Cedi is a collective national duty, not a task reserved solely for the central bank.
Speaking at the Currency Anniversary Conference in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, as part of the Cedi@60 celebrations, Dr. Asiama highlighted the vital role individuals, businesses, and institutions play in building and sustaining confidence in the local currency.
He explained that protecting the Cedi extends beyond monetary policy or regulatory actions, noting that everyday economic choices—from personal spending to business operations—have a direct impact on the currency’s stability.
“It is my hope that every Ghanaian—from the child learning to count, to the trader serving her community, to the entrepreneur building something new—continues to hold the Cedi with confidence and pride,” he said.
Dr. Asiama stressed that achieving a stable currency requires unity and a shared sense of responsibility.
“Let us always remember that protecting the Cedi is not the duty of one institution. It is a collective effort—rooted in our belief in Ghana’s future,” he added.
