
Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has passed away. The sad news was confirmed on Saturday, July 26, 2025.
According to an official statement from the Fosu family, signed by their legal representative Fati Ali Yallah of Baba Jamal & Associates, the music icon died after a short illness at the age of 60.
“With profound sorrow and deep grief, the Fosu family announces the passing of Ghana’s beloved musical icon, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba,” the statement read.
Daddy Lumba was more than just a musician — he was a cultural institution. Over a career that spanned decades, he captivated audiences with his signature voice, heartfelt lyrics, and timeless melodies that became the soundtrack of generations. His music captured the joys, sorrows, hopes, and resilience of everyday Ghanaians.
“His poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the statement added.
The family has requested privacy as they mourn their loss and noted that funeral details will be communicated in due course.
Daddy Lumba leaves behind an extraordinary musical legacy, countless inspired artists, and millions of devoted fans. He will forever be remembered as a towering figure in Ghanaian highlife and a cherished symbol of African musical excellence.
