The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the suspension of its road compliance fines, effective Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
The suspension covers all activities of the Authority’s Compliance Team, which has been enforcing penalties on drivers and vehicle owners to ensure adherence to licensing and registration regulations.
In a statement, the DVLA explained that the decision follows extensive consultations and feedback from the public regarding the enforcement exercise. The temporary halt, it said, will allow for broader stakeholder engagement and intensified public education before the Compliance Team resumes operations.
“The compliance exercise was introduced to promote regulatory adherence and enhance road safety,” the statement noted. “However, after listening to public concerns, the Authority has decided to suspend the fines temporarily to foster better understanding and cooperation among road users.”
The DVLA emphasized that while the fines are suspended, all existing legal requirements for vehicle licensing, registration, and roadworthiness remain fully in force. It clarified that the suspension applies only to the collection of compliance-related penalties, not the underlying laws.
Reaffirming its commitment to promoting safety and discipline on Ghana’s roads, the Authority said it would continue working with the public through education and collaboration to achieve lasting improvements in road compliance and safety.
