Adwoa Tee’s Call to Stop Betting Sparks Debate Over Jobs and Past Sponsorship

Adwoa Tee

Ghanaian social media influencer Adwoa Tee has stirred debate after urging young people to stop sports betting, drawing both support and criticism over the brief appeal.

In a post shared on X on September 25, 2026, the content creator wrote: “Stop Betting.”

She offered no detailed explanation, but the message prompted discussions about gambling, youth unemployment and the availability of alternative sources of income.

Supporters welcomed her stance, arguing that influential personalities should speak out about the financial and behavioural risks associated with betting. Some viewed the appeal as encouragement for young people to focus on more sustainable pursuits.

Other users questioned whether simply telling people to stop addressed the circumstances driving their participation. They pointed to unemployment and financial hardship, arguing that these pressures help explain the attraction of sports betting.

Some respondents also asked whether Adwoa Tee was prepared to provide funding or income opportunities to help young people move away from gambling.

The discussion extended to her previous association with a betting company through a charitable initiative.

Social media users recalled that her “Giving Back to Society” project, which distributed food, electronics and school supplies to students at the University of Ghana, Legon, had sponsorship from ride-hailing company Yango and sports betting brand Betway.

That connection prompted questions about the contrast between her latest message and the corporate support behind the earlier outreach.

Although her post did not outline any proposals for regulating the industry, it has added to public discussion about betting’s place in young people’s lives and the economic conditions surrounding its appeal.
