Ghanaian media personality Afia Schwarzenegger has publicly reacted to the 20-year prison sentence handed to Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, reigniting their long-running public feud.
The Accra High Court on Monday, July 20, 2026, sentenced Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to 20 years’ imprisonment with hard labour after finding him and his company, Akonta Mining Limited, guilty in a high-profile illegal mining case.
Shortly after news of the judgment emerged, Afia Schwarzenegger took to her social media platforms to express satisfaction with the outcome.
In one post, she shared a photograph of her late father, whom she described as her “guardian angel,” suggesting that justice had finally prevailed in the long-standing dispute between herself and Wontumi.
“The law is the law… His name is Kojo Agyei, and he’s my guardian angel of vengeance… You’ve not seen anything yet!!!!” she wrote.
In a separate video, the outspoken media personality adopted a sarcastic tone, jokingly appealing to the judiciary and political leaders to remove the “hard labour” component of Wontumi’s sentence. She humorously claimed that her pastor had encouraged her to forgive, despite her long-running differences with the politician.
The Akonta Mining Case
Wontumi’s conviction follows a high-profile prosecution over illegal mining activities involving Akonta Mining Limited.
According to the court’s ruling, Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay found Wontumi and the mining company guilty of unlawfully assigning mineral rights and facilitating unlicensed mining operations at the Samreboi concession in the Western Region.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court imposed a GH¢120,000 fine on Wontumi. The court also ruled that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional three-year prison term.
His legal team has indicated that it intends to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.
A Long-Running Public Feud
The latest development has brought renewed attention to the years-long feud between Afia Schwarzenegger and Chairman Wontumi.
Their dispute gained national attention in 2022 after Afia made public allegations about having had a past romantic relationship with the NPP chairman. Wontumi denied the claims and subsequently filed a GH¢2 million defamation lawsuit against her.
During the legal proceedings, Afia was also found in contempt of court after making comments about Wontumi despite court restrictions. She was initially sentenced to 10 days in prison, but the punishment was later replaced with a GH¢60,000 fine and a 36-month bond of good behaviour.
With Wontumi’s conviction dominating public discussion, Afia Schwarzenegger’s social media posts have drawn mixed reactions. While some users viewed them as the latest chapter in the pair’s long-running public rivalry, others urged restraint, noting that the legal process is expected to continue as the case moves to the appellate courts.
