Nigerian actress and content creator Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known for her comedy character “Mummy Wa,” has said she is only interested in relationships with men who are confident enough to appreciate strong and independent women.
Ikuseedun made the statement during an interview with Saturday Beats in mid-August 2026 while discussing her personal life, career pressures and the financial challenges facing creatives in Nigeria.
Asked whether her strength, independence and professional success make romantic relationships more difficult, the actress dismissed the suggestion that her personality drives potential partners away.
“I would say no because only people who are mentally secure will be attracted to me. I don’t entertain people who are intimidated by strong women. I attract men who love strong women,” she said.
According to Ikuseedun, her personality naturally filters out people who may feel threatened by her confidence or achievements. She believes a healthy relationship requires emotional security rather than one partner reducing their ambitions to make the other person comfortable.
Beyond her personal life, Ikuseedun spoke candidly about the demands of building a sustainable career in acting and digital content creation.
She identified consistency as one of the most challenging parts of her work. In an industry driven by changing trends and constant audience engagement, creators are under pressure to publish regularly while ensuring that each new project improves on their previous work.
Ikuseedun explained that managing several ideas and projects while maintaining a visible public presence can be exhausting. Creators must continually develop new concepts, produce content and meet audience expectations even when they are dealing with personal or professional difficulties.
She described the pressure to become “better than your version of yesterday” as demanding, particularly when earlier success creates even higher expectations.
The actress also addressed the financial struggles experienced by many people working in Nollywood and Nigeria’s wider creative industry.
According to her, talented creatives frequently possess the passion and ideas required to produce quality work but lack the financial resources needed to execute their projects.
Production costs can include equipment, locations, costumes, transportation, editing, marketing and payments to cast and crew. Without adequate funding, promising concepts may be delayed, reduced in scope or abandoned entirely.
Ikuseedun admitted that the financial pressure sometimes forces creatives to reconsider whether pursuing their passion is sustainable.
“At times, it makes one wonder, ‘Should I continue doing what I love to do or focus on something else that will bring in so much money and one won’t have to stress oneself so much?’” she said.
Despite those difficulties, Ikuseedun continues to expand her career beyond the comedic role that brought her widespread recognition.
She became popular for portraying “Mummy Wa,” the fictional wife of Mr Macaroni’s “Daddy Wa” character in comedy sketches. Her performance helped establish her as a familiar face among Nigerian digital audiences.
Although she remains grateful for the opportunities and visibility associated with the character, Ikuseedun said she does not want the role to define the full extent of her career.
She explained that Mummy Wa represents only one aspect of her creative range. The actress is working to introduce audiences to other characters and demonstrate that she can perform roles beyond comedy.
Her comments reflect a common challenge confronting actors who become closely associated with one successful character. While such roles can provide recognition and career opportunities, they may also make it difficult for audiences and producers to see the performer in a different capacity.
Ikuseedun hopes that taking on more varied projects will allow the public to appreciate her versatility and help her build an identity beyond Mummy Wa.
