Mosun Filani explains acting break, says she is ready to return to Nollywood

Nollywood actress Mosun Filani

Nollywood actress Mosun Filani has explained that she stepped away from acting to devote more time to her marriage and the upbringing of her children, saying the decision was one she made for herself.

In an interview with BBC News Yoruba, Filani said the demands of film work made it difficult for her to be as present at home as she wanted. Acting could involve long periods on set and travel away from her family, and she chose to pause her career while her children were young. She said her husband did not compel her to make that choice.

Filani has spoken about those demands before. In an earlier interview, she said her husband’s work kept him busy and that she did not want to leave their young children entirely in the care of a domestic worker while she travelled for filming. Her latest comments return to the same concern: she wanted to take an active role in raising them during their formative years.

The actress said she viewed her break as a personal sacrifice for her family, rather than a permanent departure from entertainment. With her children now older and more independent, she believes she can resume acting with greater peace of mind. She has expressed her readiness to return to Nollywood, though she did not announce a specific new project in the reported interview.

Filani also used the interview to respond to speculation about her marriage. She rejected the description of herself as a second wife, explaining that although her husband may have been married before, she did not meet another woman living in his home when they married. She presented that account as a clarification of her own circumstances, without passing judgment on other families
