A resurfaced interview with Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has brought renewed attention to how she and her husband, Captain Matthew Ekeinde, share household responsibilities.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Nollywood Uncut in remarks reported in August 2015, the actress explained that her husband handled market shopping because her celebrity status made such outings difficult.
Omotola recalled accompanying him earlier in her career but remaining inside their vehicle to avoid attracting attention. That arrangement changed after someone recognised her at Tejuosho Market, creating what she described as a security risk.
Following the incident, her husband advised her against joining subsequent trips. She said he took care of buying food while she handled the cooking, describing the arrangement as an example of mutual support.
The actress praised him for adapting to their circumstances instead of insisting on traditional expectations about domestic duties. She also argued that supporting a partner’s success demonstrates strength, while attempts to intimidate or restrict a spouse reveal insecurity.
Her account emphasized cooperation and respect, presenting their division of responsibilities as a practical response to the demands of her public life.
