Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie has revealed that he has never used his own money to buy a mobile phone, explaining that the devices he has owned have been gifts from family and friends.
In a lighthearted post on X, the award-winning musician said he needed a replacement phone and could be approaching an unusual personal milestone: purchasing one for himself for the first time.
“Need a new phone… and if I should buy one that’s going to be my first time in life buying a phone for myself,” he wrote.
Sarkodie attributed the situation to his limited interest in technology, explaining that he tends to hold on to older devices rather than regularly upgrade them.
According to the rapper, people close to him sometimes become so embarrassed by his outdated phones that they step in and buy replacements.
He thanked his wife, Tracy Owusu Addo, popularly known as Tracy Sarkcess, fellow musician King Promise and other close friends for providing those upgrades over the years.
The revelation offered fans a glimpse into his everyday habits, showing that keeping up with the latest smartphones is not a priority for him.
His post drew amused reactions online, with some fans discussing his modest approach to technology while others joked about his reputation for being careful with money.
Although Sarkodie indicated that he was considering a new phone, he did not say which device he intended to buy or whether he had already made the purchase.
