French prosecutors have charged Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi with rape

Investigators probing rape allegations questioned Hakimi in the Nanterre police station on Thursday. After he had been indicted, he was placed under judicial supervision by an investigating judge.

The 24-year-old alleged victim, who claims she was raped Saturday at Hakimi’s home in a suburb of Paris, is prohibited from contacting Hakimi. According to prosecutors, Hakimi is allowed to leave French territory.

Last year, the Madrid-born defender helped Morocco become the first African team to reach the semifinals of a World Cup. During Friday’s training session, he was spotted with PSG.

The preliminary investigation was launched by prosecutors on Monday. A charge does not always entail a trial under French law.

The alleged victim’s lawyer, Rachel Flore Pardo, told the AFP news agency, “My client maintains everything she said. As a safety precaution, she wants to speak exclusively to prosecutors and not have this matter become a media issue.”

As a result, PSG has given its support to Hakimi and “placed its trust in the justice system”.

In her statement to CNN, Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, insisted that the allegations against him were untrue and that he had been the victim of an attempted racket.

He was happy about the charge that had been filed against him, saying it gave him the opportunity to “finally defend himself ”.

Hakimi made his FIFA Awards debut on Monday in Paris. A brief, loud applause greeted his introduction as one of the player-elected men’s all-stars.

In 2018, Hakimi joined Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund after going through Real Madrid’s youth system. His career with the German club spanned 73 appearances.

In 2020, he moved to Inter Milan, and then in 2021, he joined PSG. During his time at PSG, he has established himself as an integral member of the team and developed a close friendship with star forward Kylian Mbappe.
