Fuel Prices Edge Up as October Pricing Window Opens

Some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have announced upward adjustments in pump prices for the first pricing window of October 2025, with diesel recording the most significant change.

On October 2, Shell increased the price of diesel from GH¢13.89 to GH¢14.18 per litre, while keeping petrol unchanged at GH¢13.44 per litre. Other OMCs are expected to follow with similar adjustments from October 3.

Revised Pump Prices

  • Diesel: GH¢14.18 per litre (up from GH¢13.89)

  • Petrol: GH¢13.44 per litre (unchanged)

The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies had earlier projected marginal increases in fuel prices for the October 1–15 window. Industry players attribute the hikes to two key factors: rising global oil prices and the continued depreciation of the Ghanaian cedi.

During the review period, the cedi fell from GH¢12.07 to GH¢12.40 against the US dollar, a 2.74% depreciation. At the same time, international crude prices rose by 1.57%, from $67.39 to $68.45 per barrel. Both trends are feeding directly into higher fuel costs for Ghanaian consumers.

Outlook for October

  • Petrol: May climb by up to 2.47%, reaching about GH¢14.52 per litre.

  • Diesel: Could rise between 1.36% and 3.41%, potentially hitting GH¢15.17 per litre.

  • LPG: Expected to increase by 2.01%–4.01%.

Consumers should therefore brace for further adjustments in pump prices in the coming weeks as global market pressures and exchange rate volatility persist.
