The John Dramani Mahama-led government has announced a significant increase in the producer price of cocoa for the 2025/2026 season, which officially begins on August 7, 2025.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson revealed that the new producer price has been set at $5,040 per tonne, marking a 62.58% increase from the previous rate of $3,100 per tonne.

“This revised price represents 70% of the gross Free-On-Board (FOB) value of $7,200 per tonne and fulfills President Mahama’s commitment to ensuring cocoa farmers receive 70% of the FOB price,” Dr. Forson stated.

Based on an average exchange rate of GH₵10.25 to the US dollar for the 2025/2026 crop season, the new price translates to GH₵51,660 per tonne or GH₵3,228.75 per 64kg bag.

Dr. Ato Forson emphasized that the price adjustment is a major step toward restoring fairness and dignity to the country’s cocoa farmers, who have long been at the heart of Ghana’s agricultural economy.

The government also pointed out that under the previous administration, the FOB value stood at $4,850 per tonne, yet cocoa farmers received just $3,100—representing 63.9% of the FOB—despite more favorable global market prices at the time.

The new pricing policy takes effect on August 7, 2025, and is expected to significantly enhance the incomes and welfare of cocoa farmers nationwide.
