Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, an NPP presidential candidate, has recounted his party’s efforts to secure a majority caucus in the current Parliament. After the 2020 elections, the NDC and NPP each held 137 seats, with one independent MP from Adansi Fomena holding the deciding vote.
This MP, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, had been a member of the NPP but was expelled from the party for running as an independent candidate and winning. Agyapong approached Asiamah to gain his support for the NPP, which required a demand for the resignation of the Adansi Fomena constituency chairman before Asiamah would join the NPP’s majority caucus.
Agyapong claims his intervention and the payment of GH¢1 million enabled the condition to be met. Without it, the NPP would not have had a majority in Parliament.
