Kuami Eugene Explains Why He’s Selective About Writing Songs for Other Artists

Award-winning Ghanaian musician and songwriter Kuami Eugene has revealed that he is highly selective about writing songs for fellow artists, stressing that one key factor is their ability to promote the music effectively.

Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3 FM, the “Rockstar” hitmaker explained that songwriting takes significant creative effort, and he therefore prefers to collaborate with artists who are serious about pushing their craft.

“I don’t want to write a song that someone will just waste. The artist has to be ready to push it,” he said. “If you can’t promote it, then I’d rather not waste the song.”

Kuami Eugene emphasized that while writing a great song is important, its true success depends on how well it is marketed and shared with the public.

Over the years, the singer—who has written or co-written songs for top acts such as MzVee and Adina—has become more cautious about who he works with behind the scenes.

“There are people who think once you give them a hit song, the rest will sort itself out. But it doesn’t work that way anymore,” he explained.

The “Angela” crooner admitted that fear of wasted potential and unrecognized work sometimes holds him back from giving out songs, even when approached by talented musicians.

Though he did not mention any names, his comments are expected to spark industry conversations about responsibility, work ethic, and the business side of music collaboration.

Currently, Kuami Eugene is promoting his latest single and preparing for an upcoming tour, while also continuing to produce and write for both established and emerging talents in Ghana’s music scene.
