A man suspected of stealing a motorbike has died following a brutal mob attack in Awutu Bawjiase, located in the Awutu Senya West District of the Central Region.

According to local sources, the deceased and an accomplice allegedly hired a commercial motorbike, known locally as Okada, from Esikaso in the Eastern Region under the pretense of traveling to Awutu Bawjiase. Upon reaching the outskirts of the town, the pair reportedly attacked the rider with a stick and stole the motorbike.

Despite his injuries, the rider was able to get assistance from another motorcyclist and initiated a pursuit. The chase ended with one of the suspects being apprehended by a group of Okada riders on a busy stretch of road, while the second suspect managed to escape and remains at large.

Eyewitnesses say the captured suspect was subjected to a violent mob assault by the riders, who were enraged by the robbery attempt. The assault turned gruesome, with reports indicating that the suspect was mutilated—his testicles allegedly severed during the attack.

The Assembly Member for the area confirmed the incident and described the mob’s actions as excessive and deeply troubling.

Police officers from the Awutu Bawjiase District Command responded to the scene and transported the injured man to the Awutu Bawjiase Polyclinic. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The body has been deposited at the morgue. Police say investigations are ongoing to identify individuals involved in the lynching and to locate the second suspect who fled.
