Farmers and livestock traders are required to obtain official Movement Permits to curb the spread of animal diseases, according to Dr. Benjamin Kissi Sasu, Deputy Head of the National Food Safety and Reference Laboratory at the Veterinary Services Department.
He emphasized that the permit is not merely a bureaucratic requirement but a critical measure for tracking and controlling diseases that pose risks to public health and the livestock sector.
He explained that the permit system enables veterinary officers to monitor the movement of animals and prevent the transfer of sick livestock across regions. Dr. Sasu called on farmers, traders, and transporters to adhere strictly to the regulations, stressing that rigorous enforcement is essential to protect livelihoods and ensure food safety for consumers.
