The decision of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to recall Members of Parliament (MPs) from recess has sparked outrage among the Minority in Parliament because of concerns about potential plagiarism. The MPs are scheduled to convene on May 2, 2023, to address what the Speaker has described as pressing parliamentary matters.
However, the Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has taken to Twitter to accuse the government of exploiting the recall to push through another round of borrowing. Dr. Forson has condemned the government’s borrowing practices, which he argues have significantly harmed Ghana’s economy. He has also questioned the rationale behind the urgent business and the government’s persistent reliance on borrowing despite the country’s economic challenges.
The House adjourned on March 31, 2023, after passing three tax bills and confirming two Supreme Court Justices.
