Parts of Accra experienced significant flooding on Sunday, March 29, 2026, following nearly six hours of sustained heavy rainfall that disrupted movement and daily activities across the city.
Several low-lying areas—including Kasoa Old Barrier, Mallam Junction, Weija, Kaneshie, Accra Central, Circle, and Dansoman Junction—were among the hardest hit. Residents and commuters faced difficulties moving through flooded streets, while heavy traffic congestion was reported in multiple locations.
The situation was largely attributed to continuous rainfall that overwhelmed existing drainage systems, causing water to accumulate rapidly in vulnerable communities.
Although no casualties have been recorded, residents expressed ongoing concern about the persistent flooding in these areas, especially during the rainy season.
The downpour also affected social activities, including church services, as many congregants in the impacted communities were unable to attend their scheduled morning programmes.
