Dr. Zakaria Mumuni, First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana, has been appointed Chairman of the Advisory Board for the College of Humanities at the University of Ghana. His appointment was formalized during an inauguration ceremony held at the university on March 19, 2026.

In his new role, Dr. Mumuni will lead a board made up of external professionals tasked with providing strategic direction to the College. The Advisory Board is expected to help align academic programs with global trends while strengthening research capacity and preparing students for the demands of the professional world. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the relevance and impact of humanities education in a rapidly evolving global environment.

An alumnus of the University of Ghana, Dr. Mumuni described his appointment as both an honor and an opportunity to give back to the institution that played a key role in shaping his career. He emphasized the importance of innovation, collaboration, and stronger stakeholder engagement in positioning the College of Humanities as a leading center for intellectual development and policy influence.

Dr. Mumuni was appointed and sworn in as First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana in February 2025. He brings over two decades of experience in central banking, economic research, and financial market operations. His academic background includes an MPhil in Economics from the University of Ghana and a PhD in Economics from the University of Nottingham.
