Bekwai Court Jails Mine Worker 14 Years for Defiling Eight-Year-Old

The Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 30-year-old

A 30-year-old mine worker, Atta Kwadwo, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for defiling an eight-year-old girl at Manso Kumpese in the Ashanti Region.

The Bekwai Circuit Court, presided over by His Honor Isaac Appiatu, convicted Kwadwo of defilement under Section 101 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The prosecution told the court that Kwadwo lived in the same compound house as the child and her family. The offence occurred at approximately 6 p.m. on July 10, 2026, near a shared bathhouse.

The girl’s mother became concerned when her daughter failed to return promptly from the bathroom. She went to check on her and discovered the assault, according to the prosecution.

The incident was subsequently reported to police, leading to Kwadwo’s arrest and prosecution. The court found him guilty and imposed the 14-year custodial sentence.
