Ghana’s national U-20 women’s football team, the Black Princesses, recorded a goalless draw against Mexico in an international friendly played at the Centro Deportivo Choquenzá in Bogotá, Colombia.
The match served as the final preparatory test for both teams ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Mexico created an early opportunity in the ninth minute, but Ghana goalkeeper Afi Amenyeku reacted quickly to clear the danger and keep the score level.
The Black Princesses produced their first notable chance in the 28th minute when forward Salamatu Abdulai found space to shoot. Her effort, however, went over the crossbar.
Both teams increased their attacking intensity after the interval as they searched for the opening goal.
Ghana captain Stella Nyamekye came closest to breaking the deadlock with a well-directed header, but the Mexican goalkeeper made an important save to deny her.
Head coach Yussif Basigi used the friendly to strengthen Ghana’s defensive organization and assess the chemistry among his players. The fixture also allowed the squad to adjust to the high-altitude conditions in Bogotá before the tournament begins.
The Black Princesses will compete in Group E of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup alongside Austria, Japan and New Zealand.
Mexico, meanwhile, have been placed in Group A with hosts Colombia, Cameroon and Australia.
The goalless result gave both technical teams another opportunity to assess their squads and make final tactical adjustments ahead of their respective opening matches.
