The BuzStop Boys, one of Ghana’s best-known sanitation and environmental advocacy groups, have survived a serious road accident after their vehicle reportedly struck a large pothole while traveling on a highway.
In a statement released after the incident, the group and its founder, Heneba Kwadwo Safo, confirmed that although the vehicle rolled over multiple times and sustained extensive damage, all occupants escaped with their lives.
Vehicle Reportedly Flipped After Hitting Pothole
According to the group’s account, the crash occurred when their vehicle hit a deep pothole on the roadway, causing one of its tires to detach suddenly.
The loss of control reportedly led the vehicle to overturn several times before coming to a stop. Despite the severity of the accident, everyone inside survived and is recovering from the ordeal.
The incident is said to have occurred along a section of the Suhum–Nsawam Highway, a corridor that has frequently been the subject of public concerns over road conditions and safety.
Group Highlights Dangers of Poor Road Infrastructure
Following the crash, the BuzStop Boys used the experience to draw attention to what they describe as the growing threat posed by poorly maintained roads across the country.
In a public statement, the organization argued that large potholes, damaged road surfaces, and uncovered or neglected manholes represent significant hazards for motorists and pedestrians alike.
The group stressed that while its members were fortunate to survive, many other road users have lost their lives or suffered serious injuries in accidents linked to deteriorating infrastructure.
Call for Urgent Maintenance and Accountability
The advocacy group has called on the relevant authorities, including the Ghana Highway Authority and other road management agencies, to intensify maintenance efforts on national roads.
According to the BuzStop Boys, addressing hazardous road conditions should be treated as a matter of public safety, with prompt repairs aimed at preventing avoidable accidents and saving lives.
The organization emphasized that behind every road crash statistic is a family and a community affected by tragedy, urging officials to prioritize infrastructure maintenance before more lives are put at risk.
