Ethiopian Airlines has announced the resumption of its direct passenger service between Addis Ababa and Atlanta, with flights scheduled to restart on May 21, 2026. The route had been briefly suspended in February 2026 due to operational reasons, but is being reinstated to meet growing demand from business travelers, tourists, and members of the African diaspora.
The airline plans to initially operate three weekly flights on the route. Beginning June 20, 2026, the frequency will increase to four flights per week as demand continues to grow. The service will connect Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport, one of the busiest aviation hubs in the world.
The westbound flight from Addis Ababa to Atlanta will include a technical stop at Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport in Rome. Ethiopian Airlines is expected to operate the route using the modern Boeing 787 Dreamliner, known for its fuel efficiency, long-range capability, and enhanced passenger comfort.
The Atlanta route plays a strategic role in Ethiopian Airlines’ global network by strengthening connections between the United States and multiple destinations across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Through its hub in Addis Ababa, the airline offers travelers onward connections to major cities across its extensive international route map.
Example round-trip fares from Atlanta to destinations within the Ethiopian Airlines network illustrate the breadth of connectivity available. Travelers can find economy-class fares to cities such as Johannesburg starting around $1,743, Cape Town from approximately $1,765, and Mumbai from about $1,873. Other destinations include Lagos with fares starting near $2,576, Nairobi from roughly $2,161, and Cairo beginning around $2,425.
Passengers traveling to West Africa can connect to Accra with fares starting around $2,755, while routes to Asia include Bangkok and Hong Kong, offering additional travel options through Addis Ababa.
Bookings for the resumed route are currently available through the Ethiopian Airlines official website and global booking platforms. The airline expects the reinstated service to strengthen trade, tourism, and cultural links between the United States and Africa while expanding travel options for international passengers.
