Ghana has five statutory public holidays remaining for the rest of 2026, according to the Ministry of the Interior under the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act.
The remaining holidays include national observances, religious celebrations, and commemorative events that will be marked across the country between July and December.
Republic Day – Friday, July 3, 2026
Ghana will observe Republic Day on Friday, July 3, 2026. Although the holiday is traditionally marked on July 1, it has been officially shifted through an Executive Instrument to create a long weekend for workers and public institutions.
The day commemorates Ghana’s transition to a republic and remains one of the country’s key national observances.
Founders’ Day – Monday, September 21, 2026
Founders’ Day will be observed on Monday, September 21, 2026, providing citizens with a three-day weekend.
The holiday honors the founding figures of Ghana’s independence movement and recognizes their contributions to the country’s political and historical development.
Farmers’ Day – Friday, December 4, 2026
Ghana will celebrate Farmers’ Day on Friday, December 4, 2026. The annual event is observed on the first Friday of December and is dedicated to recognizing the contribution of agricultural workers to the national economy.
Across the country, regional and district-level ceremonies are held to award outstanding farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
Christmas Day – Friday, December 25, 2026
Christmas Day remains one of Ghana’s most widely celebrated public holidays, marked on Friday, December 25, 2026.
The day is observed with church services, family gatherings, festive meals, and community celebrations across the country.
Boxing Day – Saturday, December 26, 2026
Boxing Day will fall on Saturday, December 26, 2026. It is a statutory public holiday traditionally observed the day after Christmas.
In line with standard practice, when Boxing Day falls on a weekend, a substitute public holiday is typically observed on the following Monday, December 28, 2026, allowing workers an additional day off.
African Union Day – Monday, May 25, 2026
Ghana also recognizes African Union Day on May 25 each year. While it is officially designated as a commemorative day, it is not classified as a non-working statutory public holiday.
The day highlights Ghana’s commitment to African unity, integration, and cooperation under the African Union framework.
