The Ghana Prisons Service has launched a nationwide manhunt for a convicted prisoner who escaped from lawful custody in mid-August 2026.
The escapee has been identified as 29-year-old Peter Kyeremeh. According to a public notice issued by the Service, Kyeremeh is slim in build and fair in complexion.
He had been prosecuted and convicted of unlawful entry and stealing and was serving a five-year prison sentence with hard labor when he escaped. Authorities are now working to establish his whereabouts and return him to custody.
The circumstances surrounding the escape, including the facility from which he fled and how he managed to evade prison officials, were not immediately disclosed. It is also unclear whether any officers or other individuals are being investigated in connection with the incident.
The Ghana Prisons Service has appealed to the public to support the search by providing credible information that could lead to Kyeremeh’s recapture. Residents across the country have been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any possible sighting of the escaped inmate.

Members of the public are strongly advised not to approach or attempt to arrest the escapee themselves. Instead, they should alert the appropriate security authorities and allow trained officers to handle the situation.
