John Dramani Mahama has officially opened the inaugural Ghana AgroTech Fair 2026 at Black Star Square, highlighting the government’s commitment to modernizing agriculture through innovation and technology.

The three-day event brought together key stakeholders from across the agricultural and technology sectors under the theme “Transforming Agribusiness through Local Innovation and Technology.” The fair served as a platform to showcase new solutions designed to boost productivity, improve efficiency, and support the growth of agribusiness in Ghana.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Mahama emphasized that agriculture remains a central pillar of the country’s economic development strategy. He noted that when properly structured and supported with technology, the agricultural sector can become a powerful engine for economic transformation, job creation, and national prosperity.

During his address, the president also announced plans to launch a major agricultural support initiative. He revealed that the government would break ground on March 20, 2026, in Afram Plains for the first phase of a nationwide project to establish 50 Farmer Service Centres.

These centres are expected to provide mechanization services and technical support to farmers across the country. Planned services include access to tractors and equipment for ploughing and harrowing, training and extension support for registered farmers, and assistance with grain processing and value addition activities.

President Mahama stressed that the government intends to prioritize locally developed technologies and innovations as part of its strategy to strengthen the agricultural sector. According to him, encouraging homegrown solutions will help increase productivity while reducing reliance on imported machinery and systems.

The Ghana AgroTech Fair was organized by the Ghana Export-Import Bank in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry. The event featured exhibitions of locally developed agricultural machinery, agro-processing equipment, and other emerging technologies designed to support modern farming.

Participants included agribusiness companies, young innovators, researchers, and potential investors who explored opportunities to collaborate and invest in Ghana’s growing agricultural sector.

Organizers say the fair is expected to become a recurring platform for promoting agricultural innovation and strengthening partnerships that can help transform agribusiness and improve food production in Ghana.
