The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has announced a revised reopening timetable for the 2026/2027 academic year, following a postponement caused by the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) strike.
First-year students are scheduled to report on Thursday, October 15, 2026, while continuing students will return on Saturday, October 17. Lectures will begin on Monday, October 19.
The revised dates were approved at an emergency meeting of the university’s Executive Committee, reversing the indefinite suspension of reopening. Students had initially been expected to return on October 13, but disruptions to essential administrative services prompted management to put those arrangements on hold.
Under the new arrangements, registration for first-year students will proceed with a limited number of staff available to facilitate the process.
The reopening notice was issued through the Office of the Registrar and signed by Deputy Registrar E. T. Otieku.
According to the revised academic calendar, the first semester will run from October 2026 to February 2027. The second semester is scheduled for March to June 2027, with the 2027/2028 academic year expected to begin in September 2027.
