President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod in the coming weeks for a new Accra Convention Center at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre in La.

The project, an investment by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), was announced by Minister for Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.

Covering 81,422 square metres, the proposed complex will include a main conference hall with seating for 3,000 people, a Presidential Hall for high-level meetings and four large auditoriums.

Additional amenities are planned to support conferences and other major gatherings, expanding the capital’s capacity to host local and international events.

The development forms part of SSNIT’s strategy to broaden its investment portfolio while contributing to national infrastructure.

Once completed, the center is expected to strengthen Accra’s appeal as a destination for international conferences, exhibitions and large-scale events. The project is also anticipated to create employment opportunities and support economic activity within the surrounding area.

Although the groundbreaking is expected shortly, the announcement did not specify an exact date, construction cost or completion timetable.
