Massive Fire Destroys Melcom Warehouse at Tema Free Zones Enclave

Melcom Warehouse at Tema

A major fire swept through a Melcom Group of Companies warehouse at the Tema Free Zones Enclave on Saturday, July 4, 2026, causing extensive damage to the facility and triggering a large-scale emergency response.

Despite the severity of the blaze, Melcom management confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were recorded during the incident.

Emergency Services Mount Large-Scale Response

The firefighting operation was coordinated by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), and the Ghana Police Service.

To contain the blaze, firefighters deployed approximately 10 fire engines and seven high-capacity water pumps from stations across the Tema and Greater Accra regions.

The response was further supported by water tankers provided by nearby local assemblies, enabling emergency crews to sustain firefighting efforts throughout the operation.

Fire Brought Under Control

After several hours of intensive work, emergency personnel successfully brought the fire under control by Sunday morning.

Authorities said the swift response prevented the flames from spreading to nearby factories and businesses within the Tema Free Zones Enclave, helping to limit further damage.

Cause of Fire Under Investigation

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

The Ghana National Fire Service has launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak and determine what led to the incident.

Melcom Assures Customers of Continued Supply

In a statement issued after the fire, Melcom acknowledged that the incident has significantly affected its warehouse and logistics operations.

However, the company assured customers that contingency plans have already been activated to minimize disruptions to its supply chain.

According to Melcom, emergency measures are being implemented to restore normal operations as quickly as possible and ensure that products remain available across its retail outlets nationwide.

Company Thanks Emergency Responders

Melcom also expressed appreciation to the emergency services for their swift and coordinated response, which helped contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to surrounding facilities.

The company said it will continue to work closely with the relevant authorities as investigations into the incident proceed while focusing on restoring its operations and maintaining service to customers across the country.
