The Inspector-General of Police Special Operations Team has arrested seven people in three separate intelligence-led operations targeting suspected narcotics-related activities in the Ashanti Region.
The operations were conducted at Ejisu, Abrepo Junction and Atimatim on Thursday, August 20, 2026, following intelligence gathered by the police.
Officers recovered suspected narcotic substances, hundreds of tablets and capsules believed to be unregistered drugs, and an unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the suspects remain in custody and are assisting investigators.
Two Arrested at Ejisu
The Special Operations Team arrested 43-year-old Nana Kwadwo Adu and Nana Kwame Fella, 48, during its operation at Ejisu.
Police have not yet publicly disclosed the specific quantities allegedly connected to each of the two suspects.
Investigators are working to determine their respective levels of involvement in the suspected activities.
Four Suspects Picked Up at Abrepo Junction
A separate operation at Abrepo Junction led to the arrest of four people.
They were identified as Stephanie Anokye, 23; Roland Anokye, 20; Gideon Owusu, 30; and Grace Fosua, 27.
The arrests formed part of the coordinated operation aimed at identifying people allegedly involved in the possession, control, use or sale of suspected narcotic substances and unregistered medicines.
Suspected Dealer Arrested at Atimatim
At Atimatim, officers arrested 27-year-old Kofi Opoku.
Police described Opoku as a suspected narcotics peddler who had allegedly evaded arrest during previous attempts to apprehend him.
He was taken into custody as part of the wider operation and is assisting with investigations.
The allegation against Opoku, like those involving the other suspects, has not yet been determined by a court.
Police Recover Tramadol and Suspected Narcotics
During searches connected to the operations, officers reportedly recovered pill pouches containing dried leaves suspected to be narcotic substances.
The exact identity of the dried material will require examination or laboratory confirmation.
Police also recovered 860 tablets and capsules of Tramadol suspected to be unregistered.
Other products seized were labelled Tramaking 225mg and 250mg, Royal 255mg and “Rophynol” 100mg, according to the police statement.
An unspecified amount of Ghanaian currency was also retrieved during the swoops. Police did not disclose the total value of the money or indicate which suspect allegedly possessed it.
The recovered substances and medicines are expected to form part of the evidence being examined by investigators.
Investigations Target Supply Networks
The Ashanti Regional Police Command said investigations are continuing to establish the source of the suspected narcotic substances and drugs.
Officers are also seeking to determine the full extent of each suspect’s alleged involvement and identify other people who may be connected to the activities.
The inquiry could include tracing suppliers, distribution routes and downstream sellers operating within or outside the Ashanti Region.
Police said further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
Public Asked to Support Police Efforts
The Regional Police Command has urged residents to continue providing credible information about suspected drug dealing and other criminal activities.
It said cooperation from the public remains important to identifying illicit distribution networks and protecting communities.
Members of the public with relevant information have been encouraged to contact the police through official channels while avoiding direct confrontation with suspected dealers.
All seven arrested individuals remain suspects. They are presumed innocent unless and until their guilt is established through due legal process.
